Publicado en 1895, este libro es el resultado de una exhaustiva investigación de campo realizada por el autor con el fin de rescatar los proverbios judíos en español más importantes y significativos. Más que una mera curiosidad bibliográfica para eruditos, se trata de una obra imprescindible para comprender el origen de un buen número de refranes españoles. El ladino o judeo-español, una lengua que se ha mantenido viva durante más de cinco siglos a pesar de haber experimentado algunas variaciones, nos permite disfrutar del idioma que se hablaba en España antes de la Expulsión. Raimundo Foulché-Delbosc (Toulouse, 1864-París, 1929), uno de los hispanistas franceses más importantes de todos los tiempos, fundó y dirigió la Revue Hispanique (1894-1933) y creó la colección «Biblioteca hispánica» (1897). Foulché-Delbosc recorrió España, el norte de África y Oriente Próximo recopilando canciones, romances y proverbios en ladino. Es autor, entre otras obras, de la Bibliografía de Góngora (1908) y de una edición del Cancionero castellano del s. xv (1912-1915).

This Chinese-English dictionary of proverbs (yanyu) consists of approximately 4,000 Chinese proverbs alphabetically arranged by the first word(s) (ci) of the proverb, according to the Hanyu Pinyin transcription and Chinese characters (standard simplified), followed by a literal (and when necessary also a figurative) English translation. Additional data such as brief usage notes, sources, parallel expressions, cross-references, and famous instances of use are provided where available. The proverbs are supplemented by an index of key words (both Chinese and English) found in all entries and of all topics addressed. The author has provided a scholarly introduction analyzing the definition, structure, usage, and history of these yanyu in traditional and contemporary China as well as a bibliography of collections and relevant scholarly studies of yanyu.
